How to Backup your Blogger Blog

This is especially necessary when you are about to edit your HTML Template.

To backup your Blogger template, go to the Template section of your Blogger dashboard and click the "Backup/Restore" button in the top right corner of the page.

This will bring up a window which appears like this:

Click the "Download full template" button which will ask you to save the .xml file template to your computer. Save it somewhere easy to find, you don't want to be scrambling for it when you need it! The file is saved as a unique code so perhaps a new folder renamed with your blog title and the date.

How to Restore your Saved Blogger Template

Again, go to the Template page and click the Backup/Restore button.

Click the Browse button to locate the XML file (you labeled so well from before) and click upload.

Once the file has uploaded, you'll receive a message saying that your template upload was successful and that you can preview your design on the Template page.

All of your existing gadgets will be saved!

In the old interface, when uploading a saved template, any gadgets which were not present when saving occurred, would be deleted. Blogger's new interface allows that all gadgets will be retained, though they may appear in different sections of your layout, just a quick rearrange fixes this.
